A new day, a new doll.

I love those kokeshi and bunka style dolls, and have been wanting to make one for a while.
This is Kim Ono.  She still isn't finished.

She's finally finished. She was going to be in the kokeshi style but turned out to be more in the bunka style but she doesn't have a bonnet.  She measures about 17 inches by 6 inches.  She has felted hair and mary jane shoes.  Her dress is made from 100% cotton.  I wanted her to wear a kimono didn't work out. Maybe the next one will.

Bunka dolls were a popular Japanese doll between 1920~1960.  They generally have a large head with rectangles for the body legs and arms.  Bunka means culture.  They also wear a bonnet.
I absolutely love, love, love prim dolls.  I thought I would post a picture here of a doll I created for one of my daughter's friends a few years ago.

Her face and legs were hand painted.

She had a black cat that has gone walk about.   As cats tend to do from time to time ;-) .

I thought I'd post her here to give me the inspiration I need to make more.

I found these beautiful holey stones on Woodside beach, the starting point of Ninety Mile Beach in Victoria.

'Aholey stone, also known as a hag stone, which is a stone with a natural (not a human-made) hole through it. Holey stones have long been carried as charms. The holes are considered doorways or portals through which someone can draw or repel energy. For example, the holey stone can bring luck or send away misfortune, bring wealth or banish deprivation, and so on. Many people look at the Moon through the holey stone in order to charge it with lunar power. Many cultures use holey stones for divination. To divine with a holey stone, the holder of the stone peers through the hole to see visions and gain wisdom.
Some fossils, such as the sand dollar, also have natural holes in them and assume the same magical qualities as a holey stone. Sand dollars have special meaning because they are natural pentacles.'  ~ from magic for Dummies

I found this wonderful site today
http://www.poweranimalsunleashed.com/

My power animal is:

 The Peacock
Creativity          Timing          Family

Take a deep breath and let the spirit of the peacock fill you.

Filled with the spirit of the peacock, your exotic and iridescent beauty can now begin to shine out.  There is an artist within you, deeply creative and original, who is capable of greatness.  The peacock will allow this side of you to emerge, gaining power gradually as you allow his spirit to grow within you.

The peacock knows just when to show his gifts to the world.  He is capable of folding his tail quietly and waiting.  Then, when the time is right, he calls out powerfully and fans his tail, showing his breathtaking beauty for all the world to see.  He will bring you this powerful gift of timing and intuition, so that you do not weaken your dazzling energy through overexposure of your great gifts.

The peacock will also teach you the power of community and family, for he bonds closely with his offspring.  Gather your loved ones around you closely; shine out in beauty and creativity.  You are the peacock.

I couldn't find a contact email on the site so hopefully they don't mind if I post it here.  I don't mean any copyright infringement or anything.  I loved this reading and wanted to share!

Mrs. Swallow Cloth Doll

My cousin from Darwin visited me late last year and saw some cushions I had made and said I should start making them to sell.  I thought 'yeah right! anyone can do that'.  Then my oldest daughter who was working as a nanny, suggested I start making cloth dolls again to sell!  I remember someone saying that if you're getting the same advice..........there has to be some truth to it.  So here I am.  I have been busily making cushions, a bag and dolls.
